ALABAMA REAL ESTATE JOURNAL

Stephen McNair to Speak at ACREcom 2018

Stephen McNair, owner and senior consultant of McNair Historic Tax Preservation Incorporated, will be speaking at ACREcom 2018, Alabama Center for Real Estate’s eighteenth annual commercial real estate conference and expo on February 9, 2018, at the Club in Birmingham.

McNair’s presentation will review the regulations and logistics of the Federal and Alabama Historic Tax Credit Programs while offering insight into recent important changes to these incentives.

“The Congressional Tax Reform legislation of 2017 retained the primary 20% federal program; however the regulations on how the credits must be utilized has been altered. The Alabama program goes into effect in 2018 after a one-year hiatus. The application and review process for the 2018 program is more complex and political as compared to the previous 2013 program,” says McNair.

McNair will discuss the details of these programs, eligibility, and educate commercial realtors on how the changes in 2017 and 2018 could impact the development of historic properties.

McNair’s vast experience in both the public and private sectors aid his projections and industry insight.

His company, McNair Historic Tax Preservation specializes in historic tax credit development projects, National Register nominations, architectural design, regulatory compliance, and government relations.

Prior to establishing his company in 2015, McNair served in various government and non-profit roles furthering the cause of historic preservation in Louisiana, Scotland, and Alabama. He currently serves on the Executive Board of Preservation Action, a Washington DC-based non-profit that develops and advocates for historic economic development legislation.
